Fey Fripperies will be back in January!

No new jewelry photos.

I was hoping to get some photos of my jewelry up on my etsy site, but that is going to have to wait four to six weeks. Kira pulled the camera out of my husband's hand at her birthday party and the lens jammed. So, we're down to the camcorders, and they don't take the best still photos. I'm doing the 31 days of Halloween with Kira, and it's difficult to take her photo when we have to go outside to get a decent shot. And when it's really cold and raining, tends to make her not want to get her picture taken! But she's a trooper. We're doing great on the costumes, and I have photos on my Facebook page.

Since my last blog, I saw Julie and Julia and it really made me think about this. Since the movie was about a woman blogging about cooking from Julia Childs' cookbook and the ups and downs in her life, I wondered what I could add to my blog or attempt over the course of the year. I haven't been making jewelry for long, so don't have anything to teach, but I was wondering if I made a piece of jewelry a day for a year if I could pull that off. But then I thought about the matierials I would need to buy. So, I think I'll have to hold off and start after Christmas maybe? I do plan to make some snowflakes like I did last year, so maybe I'll start with those. I want to put them on the site for sale, but that will depend on when the camera comes back.

And next month is National Novel Writers Month. I am going to do that again this year. I failed to reach the goal of 50,000 words last year since we went on a cruise with my father-in-law and his wife. I found that trying to write on a ship was rather difficult for me. I even had trouble reading! And when we returned from the cruise, I just couldn't get the story back, so let it go. But I have completed the challenge 3 times! So I'm up for number 4. I think.

Ok, so I am a lazy blogger

Yes, it's almost October and this is my first post in months. But hopefully, now I'll get back into making jewelry. I'm moving into the realm of bags, but my first two experiments were a little disappointing, so I'll need much more practice on that front. I would like to offer jewelry rolls and purses as well as jewelry, since it makes sense to offer them together and gives me the chance of reaching a larger audience/customer base.
The neighborhood is having a community yard sale, so I am planning on offering my jewelry and items for sale. Seems like a good chance to try a hand at selling my things in person instead of online. And I've fallen behind on my etsy page, so bear with me. I really need to get a good lighting kit to light my jewelry. The problem I have with my pieces is getting good resolution at the macro setting and getting the lighting right. But I will get some more pieces up even with the sub-par photos.

I am thinking I will offer to create pieces for anyone. Not sure how I want to go about it, but I am contemplating.

I feel horrible that I don't have anything new to add to my site. I got a necklace/earring stand and a bracelet stand and when I take photos with them, they all turn out blurry or too dark. So I'm going to have to purchase something different for photos, and save those for displays (whenever I get around to doing that).

I'm thinking of trying a home demonstration. I want to add much more product before then, and I want to add purses and jewelry pouches. So I'm going to order some anti-tarnish fabric and use that to line the pouches.

I hope to get some more photos and product onto my Etsy page. I've just been busy with flute choir and the ballroom dancing competition that I have let the jewelry slide and I really didn't want to let that happen. Life tends to interfere with other projects. It would help if I had a room I could retreat into to do jewelry and sewing and writing, but I don't, so I make do. Plus, Kira is a rambunctious three year old and she needs a lot of attention. I hope we can get her into public pre-school in the fall.

What's up

Had my wisdom teeth pulled on Friday, so I'll have to wait until my mouth is less sore before I get back into creating items for sale. All in all, I don't feel as bad as I thought I would. It does hurt, and I can't eat solid foods yet, but it isn't a constant ache. And the Hydrocodone does help.

I ordered some display stands for my jewelry to get better photos of sets. Hopefully they will be in soon so I can start putting up new photos. I'm going to need to get a lighting box, but that will have to wait a little while. I didn't get the stands I wanted because of cost, but when I've sold more jewelry I'll see about upgrading to those.

I had an idea to sell, but not sure if I want to make it offer it at Fey Fripperies or not. I'm thinking of selling rock cakes - they are an English pastry that my granny taught me to make. They have golden raisins, candied cherries, and mixed peel in them. I think I would offer them in packages of half a dozen and in two styles: loaded with all the ingredients and then without the mixed peel.

I'm wondering what places to start selling my jewelry - I don't have enough product yet to start selling at craft shows, but I might be able to start selling at flea markets and sell things we would sell at yard/garage sales. I'll have to start looking into setting up a table sometime soon.

First Blog

Fey Fripperies: My jewelry that I started creating just for myself. I received compliments and it was suggested to me to start selling it. Well, that's easier said than done, but I jumped in and now have a small shop on Etsy. It is a learning experience! I want to do more and I need to get more supplies to make more pieces. I also have some ideas that will hopefully give me more of a niche. There are many jewelry stores on Etsy and each one needs something that differentiates it from the neighbors.

So I went to a QVC show to see the Kirk's Folly show (live studio audience) and got some display ideas. It was a great deal of fun. It was me, my mom, my husband, and our three and a half year old daughter, Kira. She was the only child in the audience. For some reason she was not allowed to be shown on air. Whatever. She sang her ABCs for the studio audience and they liked it. She was very well behaved for a two hour show and no lunch.

This weekend, we're off to the PA Fairie Festival in Glen Rock, PA. But of course the weather for this weekend is iffy - so what to wear??? I would love to have a booth at the festival or maybe take the flute choir I am in - Flutopia - to perform. We missed the deadline to perform. And I am not ready to have a booth yet. I don't have enough product and I don't have my act in gear enough to get a booth. Though I think it would be loads of fun (and work of course).

As far as new product for my shop, I have been thinking of simple survival kits for brides and bridesmaids, vacations with small children (since I have a small child), and holidays. I need to come up with the bags I want to use and then have items I plan to include in the little kits. As well as a list of suggestions for any other items that can be added. Well, it sounds like a good idea and there aren't any out there that I can find. I have found lists of items that should be included but no one is offering bags full of things. So that's my goal for May.

As well as my shop, and the flute choir, I have to finish my novel. I have a novel partially written, it needs some major editing and rewriting and I am just hemming and hawing about getting it completed. Though if I can actually get this finished, I can attempt to sell it and that would help our financial situation. Well, if I sold it, that is.

Hopefully I'll have some more of my jewelry posted on the shop soon - I have some peices that need to be added, but I need a decent display stand to photo them. And I think I need a light box, since I have to rely on the spring sunlight, which may be sporadic.
